Give Zeno a Hard Problem

Give Zeno a complete legal problem, the relevant matter documents, and a clear result to produce.

Written by Eloy Wijlhuizen

Zeno can work on legal tasks that require several connected steps across research, analysis, and drafting. Give it the whole problem, mention the relevant matter documents, and describe the result you need.

Start with the Whole Problem

A hard problem may involve several documents, conflicting facts, multiple legal issues, or a draft that depends on earlier findings. It should still have a clear outcome.

For example, ask Zeno to:

  • Identify contradictions in matter materials and assess their impact.

  • Stress-test enforcement, regulatory, and termination risks in matter documents.

  • Trace ownership, liabilities, and change-of-control risks across matter files.

  • Review documents, research the relevant law, and prepare a first draft of an advice or due diligence report.

Avoid a broad request such as “review these files”. State the question the work should answer and the form of the result.

Mention the Relevant Documents

  1. Open the Project where the matter belongs.

  2. Add the relevant documents to Files and wait until their status is Ready.

  3. In your prompt, type @ and select the documents Zeno should use. Mention your firm’s DOCX template as well if you want Zeno to draft in that format.

  4. Identify the controlling document or latest version when this is not clear from the file names.

Include material that may challenge your initial view. If something important is missing, tell Zeno whether to continue with a stated assumption or ask you before proceeding.

Define the Result and Boundaries

Include:

  • Outcome: the question to answer or document to prepare.

  • Scope: the jurisdiction, relevant date, issues to cover, and exclusions.

  • Checks: for example, contradictions, adverse interpretations, missing evidence, or untested assumptions.

  • Result: the format, structure, length, and intended reader.

Ask Zeno to distinguish facts from assumptions, identify missing material, and show which document supports each material finding.

Follow and Steer the Work

Zeno may show a plan for a task with several steps. The plan shows how Zeno intends to approach the work. It is not a separate mode and cannot be edited before execution.

Follow the progress in the thread. If Zeno needs more context or starts in the wrong direction, send another message while it works to steer the task. You can clarify the scope, change the intended result, or mention another document from Files. Zeno may also ask you a question when it needs a decision.

Review the Result

Check material findings against the source documents and verify that any cited law is current and applicable. Review any draft and tracked changes before saving or downloading it. Legal strategy, professional judgement, and the final decision remain with you.
