How Does Zeno Decide When to Use Legal Research?

Learn when Zeno Work uses legal sources and how to request a source-based answer.

Written by Eloy Wijlhuizen

Zeno Work decides whether a request needs legal sources as part of the task. You do not need to select a separate research mode before you start.

When Zeno Uses Legal Research

Zeno may use Legal Research when your request depends on legislation, case law, or other available legal sources. This can include identifying the applicable legal framework, examining legislation, or reviewing relevant case law.

For drafting, summarising, or other work based on material you provided, Zeno may complete the task without legal research.

Give Zeno Enough Context

Include the information that determines which sources are relevant:

  • the legal issue or question;

  • the jurisdiction;

  • the relevant date or period;

  • any source types that Zeno should consider; and

  • the result you need.

If you require a source-based answer, state this explicitly in your request.

Check Whether Zeno Used Legal Sources

A source-based answer includes citations that you can open and review. Compare each citation with the statement it supports, and check the underlying source before relying on the answer in your work.

If you expected citations but the answer contains none, start a new chat and make the legal issue, jurisdiction, and source requirement explicit. Contact Support if the same problem continues.
