Supported File Types and Upload Limits

Written by Eloy Wijlhuizen

Use files of up to 500 MB each. Check each file's size and format before uploading it. For the upload steps, follow Upload Files and Folders.

Supported File Types

You can upload these formats in Files:

  • Documents and text: PDF, DOCX, DOCM, DOC, TXT, Markdown (MD), HTML, HTM, RTF, ODT, OTT, ODM, and OTH.

  • Spreadsheets: XLSX, XLS, XLSB, XLSM, ODS, and CSV.

  • Presentations: PPTX and PPT.

  • Images: JPG, JPEG, PNG, GIF, and WEBP.

  • Audio and video: MP3, MP4, WAV, M4A, OGG, WEBM, and AAC.

  • Email files: EML and MSG.

For MP4 and WEBM files, Zeno processes the audio track rather than the video images.

Wait for processing to finish, then open the file and check that Zeno can show the content you need. A supported upload format does not guarantee that Zeno can extract every page, sheet, image, audio segment, or attachment. Check the original when you need a particular part.

Uploading Several Files

You can select several files in one upload. Check the status of each item: Zeno may accept some files and reject or skip others. Read each message and check which files arrived before retrying a batch.

Project Capacity and Upload-Limit Messages

If Zeno reports an upload limit when you add files to a Project, contact Support with the message so they can check the limit for your account. Check the per-file size and any messages for individual files before trying again.

Uploading and Reading Are Separate Steps

Zeno transfers a file, processes it, and prepares its content for use in a task. Wait for Ready, then select the files you want Zeno to use. See How to Mention Project Files in a Chat for source selection.

For a long document or a large set of files, ask a focused question and identify the sections you need. Check the cited passages against the originals. Uploading a document does not guarantee that Zeno uses each page in a particular answer.

Email Files and Attachments

The email container and attachment type affect whether Zeno can read an attachment inside an EML or MSG file. Follow Upload Email Files and Their Attachments to select and check each source.

If a File Is Rejected or Does Not Process

  1. Read the message for the affected file.

  2. Check its size and format.

  3. If it exceeds 500 MB, create a smaller copy or split it into named parts. Keep the original and check that the parts contain the material you need.

  4. If you export the file to another supported format, check the exported copy before uploading it.

  5. Check which files arrived before retrying a batch.

For repeated failures, follow upload troubleshooting. If the message does not explain how to proceed, contact Support with the file type, size, and error message. Leave document contents out of the initial report.
