How Citations Work in Zeno

Written by Eloy Wijlhuizen

Citations link statements in Zeno’s answers to source material, including your uploaded files and legal sources.

Open the cited source and compare its text with the statement in the answer.

Open a Citation

  1. Find the statement you want to check in Zeno’s answer.

  2. Select a numbered citation, such as Numbered citation button for opening a source. , beside the statement.

  3. Read the source in the panel that opens alongside the conversation.

  4. Compare the cited text and its surrounding context with Zeno’s statement.

Where a supporting passage can be located, the viewer highlights it. A citation may also refer to a source as a whole, without a highlighted passage.

Check a Citation to an Uploaded File

A citation to an uploaded file opens that file in the source panel. The viewer uses the available page and passage information to help you find the relevant text.

Read the passage in context. If there is no highlight, use any page or quoted-text information shown to find the passage in the document.

Opening a file attached to your question opens the document itself. To inspect the passage referenced by a particular statement, select that statement’s citation in the answer.

Check a Citation to a Legal Source

A citation to a legal source opens the available source text in the panel. Read the cited passage and compare it with the statement you are checking.

If Open source Open source button, shown as a globe icon. is shown in the panel header, select it to open the external source in a new tab.

If Zeno cannot load the full source, it may show a saved quoted passage with a notice that the source is unavailable. Use the external source, when available, to read the wider context.

If There Is No Highlight

A missing highlight can mean that the citation refers to the whole source or that the viewer could not highlight the quoted passage.

If Highlight unavailable appears, check the source directly. Read any quoted text and page information alongside the source rather than relying on the highlight alone.

If you cannot find the cited passage or it does not support the statement, ask Zeno to clarify the reference or reconsider the answer. Include the statement you are checking so that your follow-up is specific.
